Daydreams and Night dreams: How God uses both types in the career exploration process

Oftentimes, when people are deciding whether or not to make a career change, they are told to follow their dreams. I encourage my clients to both follow their daydreams and their night dreams. “What have you always dreamed of doing?” is a standard career counseling question. However, most clients do not pay attention to their night dreams as well. Studies show that over 94% of the population dream at night. Both the Old and New Testaments are full of prophetic dreams. They also contain story after story of how the Lord used those dreams to help shape peoples’ calling and destiny. The dreams that we are having at night can help provide “divine clues” as to what career the Lord is calling us to during our next season of life. Instead of dismissing your night dreams and only focusing on your daydreams during the career exploration process, pay attention to both. The Lord can use these two tools to help launch you forward into your new career.
